DESIGNERS ASSOCIATION IN THE RUSSIAN FAR EAST

The Designers Association* of the USSR was represented in Khabarovsk city by the following list of its members. It was kind of a professional guild, which accepted only highly qualified and creative specialists. The applicant had to submit his/her portfolio to the local jury and just after its general approval his/her works were sent to Moscow, where the central office of the Designers Association of the entire country announced the verdict if this person matched the high standards of our organization or he/she needs to demonstrate more proficiency, creativity and skills next time. So, the membership was very honorable and officially certified the recognition of a specialist's professional level among all 15 republics in our country. Regular communications with colleagues and direct access to the best achievements in the field of design helped our members to perfect their knowledge and skills. Besides of that, the State provided some financial benefits for those designers who deserved to become a member of the Association.

Unfortunately, the title of our Association sounds in Russian like "Design Union" and it is often translated too literally. It causes lots of confusions with the "Trade Union," which is a different organization with other purposes and structure.

The FEB DISU stands for the Far Eastern Branch of Design Institute of the Soviet Union. It also can be literally translated as the Far Eastern Branch of All-Union Scientific Researches Institute of Technical Esthetic.

 

After the sudden changes in our country, the Designers Association of Russia became the successor of former Designers Association of the USSR. The correspondent adjustments were undertaken in the Khabarovsk Branch of our organization.
